Q&A
My lawn in Lake Zurich has patchy grass and moss. Can you help transition it to something more sustainable?
Absolutely. Patchy grass and moss often indicate poor drainage, compacted soil, or too much shade—common issues in our area. Instead of just treating symptoms, we assess the underlying conditions. Our approach typically involves designing a resilient, low-maintenance landscape using native groundcovers, shade-tolerant perennials, or a rain garden to manage moisture. We focus on improving soil health organically and selecting plants suited to your specific site, creating a vibrant, eco-friendly yard that thrives with less water and upkeep.
As a Registered Landscape Architect (RLA), what does your design process involve for a new patio or walkway?
As an RLA, my process begins with a detailed site analysis of your property, considering drainage, sun exposure, and soil. We then collaborate on a custom design that blends hardscapes like walkways or patios with ecological principles. I create formal construction documents to ensure precise installation of elements such as permeable pavers or local stone, integrated with plantings for erosion control and habitat. This licensed, professional approach guarantees a structurally sound and beautifully cohesive outdoor living space tailored to Lake Zurich's environment.
Do you offer ongoing maintenance for the native plants and sustainable landscapes you install?
Yes, we provide comprehensive landscape maintenance tailored to sustainable gardens. Our care goes beyond basic trimming; we focus on the long-term health of your native plantings and organic systems. This includes seasonal pruning of shrubs, ecological weed management, disease monitoring for plants without synthetic chemicals, and guidance on supporting local pollinators. For clients with our edible gardens, we also offer advice on caring for heirloom vegetables grown from our nursery. Our goal is to ensure your landscape matures successfully as a thriving, low-input part of the local ecosystem.
