Frequently Asked Questions
How can Quercus Landscape Design help with common Springville issues like mulch erosion and bare lawn patches?
We address these local challenges by designing landscapes with California native plants that have deeper root systems to stabilize soil and reduce erosion. For bare patches, we assess soil conditions and recommend native groundcovers or grasses that thrive in Springville's climate, reducing water use and maintenance compared to traditional lawns. Our consultation includes customized solutions tailored to your property's specific needs.
What does your landscape design service include for a California native plant garden?
Our design service provides a comprehensive plan featuring customized plant lists of California natives and climate-adapted species suited to Springville's environment. We include irrigation design, hardscape recommendations like patios or walkways, and maintenance guidance. As a certified Master Gardener, Peyton Ellas also offers gardener training and project management to ensure your landscape establishes successfully.
Do you offer ongoing care for California native plants after installation?
Yes, we provide specialty garden services focused on the care of California native and climate-adapted plants. This includes shrub pruning, disease and insect management, planting, and transplanting—specifically tailored to native species' needs. Unlike conventional 'mow and blow' services, our approach ensures your native landscape remains healthy and sustainable long-term.

Quercus Landscape Design is a Springville-based landscape design firm founded in 2005 by Peyton Ellas, a U.C.C.E. certified Master Gardener with deep local roots. After growing up partly in Springville and working in Southern California's film industry for a decade, Peyton returned to her hometown in 2003, combining her artistic background with hands-on gardening experience to create a business focused on California native plants. She brings her certified expertise, along with her smooth-coated collie Sekey (when appropriate), to every project. Beyond landscape design, Peyton operates Auntie's Home Grown Farm, writes a weekly gardening column for the Porterville Recorder, and is working on a book about California native plants, reflecting her commitment to sustainable, locally-adapted landscaping in Tulare County.
